Oklahoma solid waste facilities

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) permits and inspects the state's solid waste disposal facilities. Its Solid Waste Permitting Section writes permits for landfills, transfer stations, processing facilities, composting facilities, and regulated medical waste management facilities. Its Solid Waste Compliance Section inspects permitted facilities and investigates complaints.

In a Phase I ESA

DEQ's solid waste records are the Oklahoma form of the state landfill and solid waste disposal site records that ASTM E1527-21 lists as a standard source. The general reading of a landfill listing is on the landfills and solid waste page.

DEQ publishes several lists, and each answers a different question:

  • active solid waste disposal facilities;
  • solid waste disposal facilities authorized to accept non-hazardous industrial waste;
  • solid waste landfills authorized to accept asbestos;
  • coal combustion residual disposal facilities;
  • facilities accepting waste tires.

The facility list is titled Active Solid Waste Disposal Facilities. The pages read for this entry name no list of closed landfills and do not say whether the facilities map shows them, so for an old or closed landfill ask Central Records.

DEQ's guidance documents for these facilities include one on methane gas monitoring and a map of aquifers and recharge areas.

Where to look a site up

DEQ's Solid Waste Information page links the lists above and the solid waste facilities map.

Getting the file

DEQ's Central Records office holds the agency's files. Requests go through its online request form, in person at 707 N. Robinson in Oklahoma City, or by phone at 405-702-1188. DEQ asks that a request give the date range, the facility ID number or the facility or company name, any permit number, and whether the records wanted are land, air, water, or environmental complaints and local services documents.
