Connecticut
Contaminated or Potentially Contaminated Sites List
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) publishes a List of Contaminated or Potentially Contaminated Sites. DEEP's page, last modified April 8, 2026, says the list is now housed on Connecticut's open data platform and is updated weekly.
In a Phase I ESA
ASTM E1527-21 does not name this list among its standard record sources, and DEEP's page does not describe it as the state's version of any one of them. It is a single list that DEEP says draws on many programs, which makes it a useful first pass before reading the program pages one by one.
DEEP says sites on the list originated from:
- leaking underground storage tank sites;
- PCB sites;
- Release-Based Cleanup Program sites;
- Property Transfer Program sites;
- Voluntary Remediation Programs sites;
- brownfields sites;
- Environmental Use Restriction sites;
- federal remediation sites (Superfund Enterprise Management System);
- state remediation sites;
- Significant Environmental Hazard sites;
- landfill monitoring sites;
- RCRA Corrective Action sites;
- sites with Remediation enforcement actions requiring investigation and remediation of pollution.
The page does not say whether the list holds every site in each of those programs, so do not treat a site's absence from it as an answer. The program pages for tanks, releases, property transfers, voluntary cleanup, brownfields, use restrictions, hazards, State Superfund and RCRA corrective action cover the same programs.
Where to look a site up
- The list itself is on Connecticut's open data platform: List of Contaminated or Potentially Contaminated Sites.
- DEEP says additional site information is in the DEEP Document Online Search Portal.
- A copy of a list of contaminated or potentially contaminated sites is also named among the documents in the Records Center's file review area, in DEEP's Records Center page (content last updated July 2024).
- For leaking underground storage tank sites, DEEP gives DEEP.Leakingust@ct.gov and 860-424-3376. For other remediation sites it gives the Remediation Division at 860-424-3705.
Getting the file
DEEP's page does not say what an entry on the list shows. It says where the sites came from and that additional site information is in the DEEP Document Online Search Portal. See the overview for the portals and the Records Center.
