Oklahoma oil and gas well records
The Oklahoma Corporation Commission keeps the state's oil and gas well records, through the Well Records office of its Oil and Gas Conservation Division. They are the place to confirm whether a well was drilled on or near a property, who operated it, and what was filed for it.
In a Phase I ESA
ASTM E1527-21 does not name well records among its standard record sources. They are worth checking on any property with possible oil and gas history, since a well can leave tanks, pits, flow lines and brine behind. That is advice for the search, not something the Commission says.
What the Commission publishes:
- Well Data Finder. The Commission says this app searches for well documents by well name, well number, API number (the standard well identifier), county, legal location, operator name or operator number.
- A second well search. The Commission describes its RBDMS Well Search as an additional tool for finding oil and gas well data.
- Imaged documents. The Commission keeps a directory of the document types in its imaging system. It says an older database, Well Browse, has been decommissioned, and points to the imaging system for the most current documents.
- Disposal and flood records. The Commission publishes Salt Water Disposal Records by county and what it titles Old Well Flood Unit Records.
- Certificate of Records Search. The Well Records page offers a Certificate of Records Search and gives 405-521-2331 for information about it.
One caution from the Commission's own page: under the heading Oil and Gas Data Mining, a search of well documents by operator name, API number, legal location or county, it says the data might not be the most current.
Where to look a site up
The Commission's Database Search and Imaged Documents page links the well search tools and the imaged documents directory. Its Induced Seismicity and UIC Department page links the disposal and flood unit records. Well Records is at 405-521-2331.
Getting the file
The Commission takes records requests through the form on its Open Records Requests page, and says most requests are answered within 24 hours.
