Hazardous Waste Generator Lists
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources posts files of hazardous waste generators registered with the state. The department says the files are updated weekly. Generators are businesses or individuals that produce hazardous waste as a result of their processes.
In a Phase I ESA
ASTM E1527-21 asks for state hazardous waste facility records, and no single Missouri list is paired with that record type here. The generator files show who was registered to produce hazardous waste, which is a different question from who treats or disposes of it. For that, see Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal (TSD) Facilities. The generator files have limits, and the department states them.
- The active list leaves some generators out. It covers generators with an active generator identification number. The department says that to keep the file small, it leaves out conditionally exempt small quantity generators and sites with inactive identification numbers. It gives the federal and state identification numbers, the facility name and address, a contact person, and whether the facility is a large or small quantity generator.
- The deactivated list is a compliance list. The department says generators on it have inactive identification numbers because of non-compliance, including failure to file required reporting, failure to pay applicable fees and taxes, or both. It posts the list twice, one sorted by company name and one by identification number, with the same information.
- Registration records are elsewhere. The department points to the Missouri RCRA (MoRCRA) Data System for site registration and waste reporting information on generators.
So a site missing from the active file may be a conditionally exempt small quantity generator or may have an inactive identification number.
Where to look a site up
- The department's Hazardous Waste Generator Lists page, which links the active list by identification number and the deactivated lists.
- For how a business becomes a registered generator, the department points to its Hazardous Waste Generator Registration page.
Getting the file
The pages read do not give a generator-specific records route. The department's general route is the Sunshine Law request, and for registration forms from before March 11, 2026 it asks that the site's EPA ID be included.
