Land Restoration Program project site mapping
LRP-MAP is the geographic mapping service and data resource the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) provides for project sites in its Land Restoration Program. MDE says it is provided as a public service.
In a Phase I ESA
ASTM E1527-21 does not name a state cleanup map among its standard record sources. LRP-MAP is a way into several records the standard does name, because MDE says the mapping site lets users search the state's database for information on Brownfields, Voluntary Cleanup Program and State Master List sites. It also shows other information such as census data, land use maps and legislative district data.
MDE's wording on how far to rely on it is plain, and a consultant should carry it into the report.
- MDE says the data is provided for guidance and general information purposes, and that users should not rely upon the data for making final decisions regarding the environmental status of a property.
- MDE says the State of Maryland, its officers, agents and employees, and the owners or custodians of spatial data products in LRP-MAP make no warranty, express or implied, as to the use or appropriateness of the data.
- MDE's mapping page, which shows no date, says MDE is upgrading the mapping site and that a beta version of the new site can be accessed. The pages read do not say which version the link below opens, or whether what MDE's other pages say of the mapping site holds for the new one.
Other MDE pages point to the mapping site. The Controlled Hazardous Substance Enforcement Division page says additional sites, beyond its list of State Remediation Sites of current public interest, may be found on it. The Voluntary Cleanup Program page says VCP sites can be located on the Land Restoration Program's Project Site Map. The Uniform Environmental Covenants Act page says the mapping site holds an electronic registry of properties that contain recorded environmental covenants; see the Uniform Environmental Covenants Act page.
Where to look a site up
- LRP-MAP, linked from MDE's mapping page as "Access LRP-MAP".
- MDE says a keyhole markup language (KML) file version of the project site information can be accessed through the Help tab on LRP-MAP.
- Questions go to the Land Restoration Program at 1-800-633-6101 ext 3493, or through the electronic comment link MDE offers.
Getting the file
A map entry is not the project file. The pages read do not describe a records request route specific to the Land Restoration Program. MDE's Public Information Act requests page covers requests for MDE records in general.
