Corporation Commission Brownfields
Oklahoma Corporation Commission Brownfields Department
The Oklahoma Corporation Commission has its own Brownfields Department, inside its Oil and Gas Conservation Division. It is separate from the Brownfields Program of the Department of Environmental Quality, and it keeps its own public record.
In a Phase I ESA
This is a second Oklahoma brownfields list, so a brownfields search in Oklahoma has two agencies to cover. The general reading of a brownfields listing is on the Brownfields page.
What the Commission's page shows about the program:
- It has a public record. The Commission publishes a Brownfields Public Record.
- It points to guidance for two kinds of site. The page links cleanup guidance for oil and gas sites and corrective action guidance for petroleum storage tank sites.
- Entry is by application. The Commission's forms are an applicant eligibility form, a consent to entry form, and an application for site eligibility and assessment.
- Cleanup plans are posted for comment. The Commission posts site remediation plans for public review. A plan posted there is an early sign that a cleanup is planned.
- It publishes fact sheets. The page links fact sheets on Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments and on brownfields cleanup and corrective action, and a story map of the department's work.
The program's rules are in Chapter 10 of the Commission's rules.
Where to look a site up
The Commission's Brownfields Department page links the Brownfields Public Record and the site remediation plans under public review. The department's main contact is 405-521-2331 or OGBrownfields@occ.ok.gov.
Getting the file
The Commission takes records requests through the form on its Open Records Requests page, and says most requests are answered within 24 hours.
