Superfund sites in Oklahoma
Superfund is the federal program for cleaning up uncontrolled hazardous waste sites, created by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) works with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to address Superfund sites in Oklahoma.
In a Phase I ESA
The lists themselves are federal. They are described on the NPL page and the SEMS page. What DEQ adds is a state view of the sites it lists.
- DEQ keeps a summary page for each site it lists. Its Superfund page linked 18 site summary pages when this entry was written. DEQ says to use those pages to find the project manager for a site.
- DEQ has its own Superfund staff. Its Superfund page lists a program manager, a program manager for one site, and a site assessment team leader. For a property near a listed site, the DEQ project manager is a second source beside EPA.
- The pages read name no separate state Superfund list. DEQ describes Superfund as a federal program. DEQ says its Site Cleanup Assistance Program remediates abandoned hazardous waste sites and closed armories.
Where to look a site up
DEQ's Superfund page links its site summary pages, a Superfund site map, and EPA's own site search.
Getting the file
DEQ's Central Records office holds the agency's files. Requests go through its online request form, in person at 707 N. Robinson in Oklahoma City, or by phone at 405-702-1188. DEQ asks that a request give the date range, the facility ID number or the facility or company name, any permit number, and whether the records wanted are land, air, water, or environmental complaints and local services documents.
